Building onto the success of Chattanooga State’s 7-week term format this spring, Chattanooga State Community College is now enrolling for the second 7-week term that begins March 15 and ends May 6. So far, 551 students, almost 10% of currently enrolled students, have chosen the more focused learning option.
Enrolling in a 7-week term provides students with several benefits, including:
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) occupations are expected to experience rapid growth in the coming decade; however, a gender gap persists in STEM occupations worldwide. To help address this gap, Chattanooga State Community College will present Women in STEM, to provide opportunities for students to explore STEM careers virtually from home or school.
Chattanooga State’s Early College program provides an exciting portfolio of options for high school students. More than 1,300 students across six counties participate in Early College each year, including students in private schools and homeschool.
Patrick O’Hagan, Chattanooga State’s interim director of the Kimball Site and program manager for contract training in the Economic & Workforce Development Division, was recently selected as a member of the Leadership Tennessee NEXT Class III (LTN).

Chattanooga State Community College will begin offering two 7-week terms during the spring 2021 semester that begins January 19. The 7-week format allows the student to take the same number of credit hours as they would normally take during a regular 15-week semester, only they are taking fewer at a time.
The 7-week format splits in half the traditional 15-week semester. Students can take 2-to-3 courses during the first 7-week term, and 2-to-3 courses during the second 7-week term, thereby completing four, five or six courses during spring semester.
Chattanooga State is proud to announce that the following students have attained Dean’s List status for the 2020 fall semester. Eligibility requirements to make the Dean’s List includes students who have completed 12 or more hours of college-level work with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher for that semester. Dean’s List recognition is based on calculations at the end of the semester and cannot be updated later to reflect grade changes, such as removal of incompletes.
Chattanooga State has begun transitioning to a Modified Phase 2 Level of Operation and will be fully transitioned by Monday, November 16. All three instructional sites (Chattanooga, Dayton and Kimball) will remain in Phase 2 through January 8, 2021.
Having begun her long association with the College as a student in 1982, Julie Bennett said ‘so long’ to colleagues and students on October 31, as she begins a well-deserved retirement following 36 years of service to Chattanooga State Community College. “I have been planning my retirement for over a year (long before COVID),” states Ms. Bennett, “and I never expected my last six months to be so different … I have really missed seeing our students on a daily basis.”
