Chattanooga State was the target of a ransomware attack discovered on May 6, 2023. The College takes the privacy and security of its constituents very seriously and immediately took steps in an effort to address and mitigate the situation. As such, on June 27, Chattanooga State notified individuals impacted by the May 6 security incident that may have resulted in unauthorized access to personal information.
The College confirmed on October 19, that the cybercriminal posted additional compromised files from the May 6 incident online this week—this is not a new incident. As a result, additional personal information was compromised. On November 20, those impacted were notified. The impacted information may have included name, physical address, phone number, social security number and/or birthdate.
The College sent a notice to the impacted individuals with information for complimentary credit monitoring. The College will pay for two years of credit monitoring service.

This week, the College received information indicating that the cybercriminal compromised more than just the initial 1,244 individuals’ personal information on the May 6 incident. The College confirmed yesterday, October 19, that the cybercriminal posted additional compromised files from the May 6 incident online this week—this is not a new incident.
At this time, we are still investigating the scope of the additional files impacted, but we do know that some employee personal information was compromised. The information may have included name, physical address, phone number, and/or social security number.
The College will offer complimentary credit monitoring to those individuals whose personal information was compromised. The College will pay for the credit monitoring service. More information will be forthcoming regarding how to enroll.

Chattanooga State to Resume May 8th 13-Week Classes, Start May 30th Classes On time and Re-Open Advising & Registration
The College is actively making progress to provide faculty and students access to eLearn and to re-open more student services, including advising and registration.
All TN eCampus students have received personal email notifications about their summer classes starting on time on May 22. If you have not received an email about your TN eCampus course, please contact the Call Center at (M–F 7:30 AM—4:30 PM EST).
May 8th 13-week courses resume classes the week of May 22
Students enrolled in the delayed May 8th 13-week courses will resume classes beginning the week of May 22. Students impacted will be contacted by the College. Check back here for updates.
Each division will contact faculty scheduled to teach the delayed May 8th 13-week courses with information about accessing eLearn with assistance from Help Desk agents.

We understand that this situation has caused disruption and inconvenience to academic activities planned to start on May 8. We anticipate restoring access to eLearn by next week in an effort to resume the May 8th courses currently delayed. Our goal is to start the May 30th courses on time.
We will continue to keep you informed of our progress with eLearn access on this webpage. The college will contact impacted faculty and students about accessing their eLearn using alternative emails or phone numbers we have on file.

Community Beautification Day for Employees: Faculty and staff are invited to an optional community day on campus this Monday, May 15, at 9 AM. Please meet at the amphitheater, where Plant Ops will provide a list of indoor and outdoor activities to help beautify our campus. Please wear closed-toed shoes and consider wearing a hat if you choose to work outdoors. We will provide water, and lunch will be served at 12 noon. All employees who are unable to participate in the morning activities, whether due to teaching or other work, are invited to the community lunch at noon.

TCAT classes are currently meeting. TCAT National Signing Day Event scheduled for May 11 is canceled.
Classes that were scheduled to begin May 8–May 26 are canceled; information about refunds will be forthcoming. Classes May 8–August 4 (13 weeks or full session) are currently delayed. Please check back daily to find out the current status of these classes.
Study Abroad is not affected. If you have questions about your study abroad class, go directly to TNCIS.org.
Economic Workforce Development (EWD) classes will meet. SkillUp will meet.

ChattState will have a modified campus operation again Tuesday, May 9. Please refer to May 7 (below) for details.
Our IT team is in the process of gradually recovering our systems after we intentionally shut them down over the weekend to mitigate and investigate the cyber incident discovered on Saturday, May 6.
While we are still assessing the impact of the threat actor, please recognize that we are early in the investigation as we work to determine if and what data may have been compromised.
We take the security of information very seriously, and we are diligently working to learn more about the cyber incident. We remain committed to providing timely and accurate updates to our campus community, and we will continue to share future updates on this webpage.
