First Alum, First Woman Elected Chair of the Chattanooga State Foundation
The Chattanooga State Foundation announced that Dr. Maricela Rodriguez, a Chattanooga State alumna and local dentist, is the new Foundation Board Chair and President. She will serve a two-year term. Alan Cates is the immediate past chair and president. Additional officers include Edna Varner as vice-chair and chair-elect, John Germ as treasurer, Britt Tabor as assistant treasurer and Roberta Miles as secretary.

Chattanooga State and UTC launch joint marketing campaign
Chattanooga residents have a new option to earn college degrees. Thanks to a new dual admission partnership, you can start by earning an associate’s degree at Chattanooga State Community College, and then finish at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a bachelor’s degree.
Chattanooga State Scholarship Applications Available Nov. 1
Scholarship applications for the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 semesters will be available beginning November 1 for current and incoming students. Chattanooga State and the Chattanooga State Foundation expect to award up to $1 million in scholarships to qualified students. Applicants who apply early will receive preference. TN Promise and Hope Scholarship recipients may also qualify for institutional scholarships. Students who will be enrolling in Fall 2017 should submit applications as early as possible.

We are saddened to share the passing of Leonard Fant, a longtime Chattanooga State Foundation Board member and the co-creator of our annual Dinner of Firsts Scholarship benefit. Leonard passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016.
The 2014 Dinner of Firsts honoree, Leonard was roasted by his friend and singer/songwriter James Rogers with an original song entitled “Give it up for Leonard Fant!” We hope you enjoy this one-of-a-kind song honoring our one-of-a-kind friend:

On behalf of the newly formed Board of Directors for the Chattanooga State Alumni Association, we invite fellow alumni to please join us for our first-ever Alumni Roadshow.
The events are free to attend with complimentary hors d’oeuvres until we run out, plus you will be able to order from each establishment’s menu. Dr. Flora Tydings, President of Chattanooga State, will also be in attendance to share a few words regarding the state of the college and her vision for our alumni association.
