Who is eligible to take Early College classes at ChattState?

Early College courses become a part of a student’s permanent college transcript. Potential students must demonstrate maturity, responsibility, and initiative in addition to being academically prepared for success. Early College is open to any 9th-12th grade student who attends public, private or homeschool. Students must also meet minimum testing and prerequisite requirements as outlined in the Chattanooga State Course Catalog.

How do I get a copy of my ChattState transcript?

When do classes start?

The date changes each semester. For the most up to date information, please check out our academic calendar.

Do I have to take the ACT (or SAT) to take Early College classes?

No. If you have not taken the ACT/SAT, we can use the placement test that we offer at Chattanooga State called ACCUPLACER. In some cases, we may be able to use your high school GPA for placement.

How do I arrange to take a placement test?

The placement test at Chattanooga State is free. Register for the placement test here: https://www2.registerblast.com/Chattanoogastate/Exam/List . Select "Placement" for "Reading, Writing, and Math". Although the test is free to take, you can only take it twice for free. You must wait at least two weeks between the first and second time you take ACCUPLACER. If you are taking the test for a second time to challenge your first scores, be sure to use the study materials provided by the testing center in order to bring your grade up.

How do I register for class?

Students work with their high school counselor to choose courses. The Early College staff registers students based on the high school counselor’s communication regarding course selection. Homeschool students work with Early College Staff to register for classes. 

How much do classes cost?

The fee table for Early College can be found here. Students who are Juniors or Seniors and live in the State of Tennessee may qualify for the Dual Enrollment Grant. How do I apply for the Dual Enrollment Grant?

The Dual Enrollment Grant application is separate from the application for Chattanooga State. It is found here (https://www.tn.gov/collegepays/tsac-student-portal.html).

Who do I contact for Dual Enrollment Grant application issues?

Why isn’t my Dual Enrollment Gran money showing on my account?

It can take several weeks for Dual Enrollment Grant funds to show on your account.

I qualify for the Teacher Discount. What do I need to do?

Please send your completed Teacher Discount form to bursar@chattanoogastate.edu.

Can I set up a payment plan to pay my tuition?

Yes, you can set up a Deferred Fee Payment Plan if you can’t pay tuition up front. There is a $25 fee to set up a payment plan. Directions on how to set up the payment plan can be found here: https://www.chattanoogastate.edu/financial/tuition-fees/fee-deferment.

When are payments due?

You must pay your bill or set up a payment plan by the time classes start. If you don’t, your classes will be deleted and you might not be able to register again.

Who do I contact if I don’t see my classes on eLearn?
  1. Has the semester started? Courses will not appear until the first day of the semester.
  2. Check your schedule in TigerWeb Self-Service to see...
    • if you are still enrolled and
    • if your class has started yet. (Is it a regular-semester class or a Flex-schedule class?)
  3. Does your course have an R50 or R01 section number (for example, ENGL‐1010‐R50 )? If so, it is a TN eCampus online course, and you will go to https://gotoclass.tnecampus.org/ to log in. 
  4. If all else fails, call the ChattState eLearn Help Desk at 1‐423‐697‐2592 .
Will my credits transfer to another college?

Most likely yes for public colleges and universities in Tennessee! Check out information about transfer courses here: www.tntransferpathway.org . If you are going to a college that is outside of Tennessee or not listed on the Tennessee Transfer Pathway website, we recommend calling the college to verify that your Dual Enrollment courses will transfer.

Do I have to come to campus to take tests?

Most high schools have a designated proctor that will proctor your tests. If you miss a test date, or are taking classes on the Chattanooga State campus, you will take tests in the Testing center.

Do I need a student ID?

If your classes are at your high school, you will not need an ID, but you are welcome to get one. However, if your class is online or on-campus, and you must come to campus to test, then you will need a student ID.  A ChattState Student ID card is required for proctored (monitored) tests, for checking out materials from the library, and for other campus services that require proof of enrollment.

Student ID cards are made in the Student Center. In order to receive a Student ID card, you must be registered in your classes and have paid tuition and fees. You must also bring a government issued photo ID and provide your A number.

Your first Student ID is free. If you lose it, there will be a small replacement fee to get another one.

Student IDs can be made Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Fridays 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Why do I have to pay a math fee?

The fee covers your use of MathLabsPlus, a software program that all math students use.

How do I get my books for class?

Please visit Chattanooga State’s website to find out what books you need for your class. You can buy them in person or order them online through the ChattState bookstore. You can look up your books using your A number. Your Student ID starts with “A”(Example: A00123456). Please verify that your class does not have an included digital book fee before purchasing a book from the bookstore.

How can I get tutoring?

Dual Enrollment students have access to the same resources as any other college student. Here are just a few of the fantastic resources that you can take advantage of:

 

Andrews Reading and Writing Center

Tutors provide support for students with writing assignments as well as support to build reading skills.

Does my high school IEP or 504 plan automatically transfer to college?

Your high school IEP/504 plan does not automatically transfer to your college courses. In order to receive accommodations, students must first register with the Center for Access and Disability Services.
