Spring 2025 Fine Arts Calendar Includes 'Anastasia' Musical, Exhibitions, Recitals, and More

CHATTANOOGA, TN -- Chattanooga State Community College this week announced an exciting lineup of fine arts events for the Spring 2025 semester. The lineup includes art exhibitions, live theater, recitals, and a Black History Month concert featuring the music of Black artists and composers. Don't miss these exciting opportunities to see the work of ChattState's talented students, alumni, and faculty members.
Unless noted otherwise, all events are free to the public and presented at the Chattanooga State Humanities Theatre.
Chattanooga State Denise Heinly Art Center Alumni Exhibition 2025
Time: January 30 to February 28 | Exhibition Opening January 30, 4-6 p.m.

Joshua Zink, Jana Young, and Jihye Song Guest Recital
Time: Monday, January 27 | 7 p.m.
Location: Humanities Theatre
Dr. Joshua Zink, baritone, Jana Young, soprano, and Jihye Song, piano—members of the music faculty at Kennesaw State University—will present Hugo Wolf’s "Italienisches Liederbuch." The text of these songs centers around the complexities of love and romance. The male and female voices often discuss different concepts that ebb and flow in the journey of any long-term love. Ultimately the beauty and farcical nature is intertwined and highlighted. Admission is free and open to the public.
Miles Gilbert Piano Recital
Time: Friday, January 31 | 7:00 p.m.
Location: Humanities Theatre
Miles Gilbert, piano student of Dr. Alan Nichols, will present a High School Senior Recital featuring music of Beethoven, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Franz Liszt, and others. Miles is a student through Chattanooga State's Economic and Workforce Development program.
Faculty Recital
Time: Tuesday, February 18 | 7 p.m.
Location: Humanities Theatre
The Chattanooga State Music Department faculty present selections from the classical, contemporary, and American music repertories. Performances include voice, piano, guitar, and other instruments.
Our Stories, Our Songs, Black Artists Unite
Time: Saturday, February 16 | 2:15 and 3 p.m.
Location: Humanities Theatre
Chattanooga State is proud to host “Our Stories, Our Songs, Black Artists Unite.” Join us for a Black History Month concert featuring the music of Black artists and composers. A pre-concert discussion about the artists and composers, complete with refreshments, will be held at 2:15 p.m. in the Humanities Theatre.
“Orchestral Masterworks” featuring the Symphonic Band
Time: Tuesday, February 25 | 7 p.m.
Location: Humanities Theatre
Join the Chattanooga State Symphonic Band for a musical journey through well-known orchestral standards. Featured on the program are works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and more. The Symphonic Band is directed by Nicholas Hartline and includes students from the STEM School, Collegiate High, and community volunteers.

Chattanooga State Fine Arts is pleased to present "Anastasia: The Musical," with book by Terrence McNally, music by Stephen Flaherty, and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens. According to Concord Theatricals, “Anastasia: The Musical is the spectacular new musical about discovering who you are and defining who you’re meant to be." The musical features ChattState students, alumni, and faculty, as well as members of the Chattanooga community. The title role will be played by graduating AFA Theatre student Kara Mullins. Anastasia is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals. The musical is rated PG for simulated violence and mild peril. Tickets are available at www.chattanoogastate.edu/theatre.
Savanna Daniel Flute Recital

Graduating Chattanooga State AFA Music major Savanna Daniel will present a solo flute recital including works by Telemann, Milhaud, Muczynski, and Liebermann. Savanna is a student of Cindy Solfest-Wallis, and will be accompanied by Dr. Alan Nichols on piano.
Concert Choir

"Something Old, Something Blue, and a Few Jokes Just For You!" Come join Chattanooga State's Concert Choir as we celebrate April Fool's Day. Be ready for some off the wall selections and musical shenanigans.
Jazz Band Concert

The Chattanooga State Jazz band presents an evening of jazz standards with a mixed ensemble under the musical direction of Jay Stanfill.

Chattanooga Clarinet Choir & Jericho Brass Band

The Chattanooga Clarinet Choir, led by Nicholas Hartline, will once again join forces with the Jericho Brass Band of Chattanooga, led by David Butler. Each ensemble will perform a diverse program of works for their unique instrumentation and then combine for a powerful finale!
Harnsberger/Jones Duo Percussion Concert
Time: Wednesday, April 16 | 7 p.m.
Location: Humanities Theatre
Andy Harnsberger and Caitlin Jones are currently in demand as marimba soloists and guest clinicians across the United States. Collectively, their YouTube channels have amassed over 1.7 million views. This concert will feature an original work by Andy Harnsberger, two commissions specifically written for the duo, and a percussion ensemble showcasing a variety of instruments.

The Chattanooga State Symphonic Band will present an evening of Concert Band standards featuring several student conductors. The Symphonic Band is directed by Nicholas Hartline and includes students from the STEM School, Collegiate High, as well as community volunteers.

Chattanooga State Fine Arts is pleased to present its third annual dinner theatre production, this time featuring the play "Five Lesbians Eating a Quiche" by Evan Linder and Andrew Hobgood. As Concord Theatricals describes the show: “It’s 1956 and the Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein are having their annual quiche breakfast. Will they be able to keep their cool when Communists threaten their idyllic town?” The play will be directed by guest artist Amanda Medlin and will feature ChattState students and alumni. Chattywampus Trio

The faculty trio Chattywampus, led by flutist Cindy Solfest-Wallis, clarinetist Nicholas Hartline, and pianist Alan Nichols, will present an evening of chamber music from various musical periods and styles. The concert will also feature a student ensemble.

Chattanooga State students of vocal and instrumental applied study will perform a recital of selected musical works of the classical, contemporary, and traditional American repertories.
Theatre Department Showcase

Come enjoy performances by acting and musical theatre students and see showcases of work by design/tech students. Some scenes may include mature content not suitable for children. Admission is free, and the showcase is open to the public.
