What is your favorite place you've ever traveled?

My favorite places are always the ones with earned views—an overlook I have to climb a rock face to see, a swimming hole I have to descend a gorge to jump in, or a waterfall I eventually find at the end of a nearly-indiscernible trail. The thing about these kinds of places is that they’re always an adventure to get to, and if I’m honest, that’s what I’m really after when I go places—adventure. So whether it’s Bassin Bleu in Haiti, Red River George in Kentucky, or one of the many climbing crags here in Tennessee, as long as I’m earning those beautiful views alongside great friends, I’m in my favorite place of all.

What is your favorite book?

My favorite book is actually a play: Titus Andronicus, by Shakespeare. I have always been drawn to the darker side of Renaissance Drama, and I would argue that Titus is Shakespeare's most intriguingly violent play.

What is your favorite book?

It’s impossible for me to pick just one, so I’ll say that my favorite book(s) is the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. I make it a point to re-read the series at least once each year, and I’m always awed by the magical world Rowling has created—with every read-through, I notice new details about the plot and characters, as well as connections to current social issues, and the themes seem to grow more complex. Also, they’re just fun and enjoyable books to read!

What is your favorite place you've ever traveled?

My favorite place I've ever traveled is the Burren Way on the west coast of Ireland. My husband and I did a walking tour there, so for two weeks we were walking north along the coast with the rocky cliffs and wild ocean on the left and lush green fields, horses, cows, and sheep on the right. We visited the cliffs of Moher, the Aran Isles, and little villages like Liscannor, Fanore, Doolin, and Ballyvaughan. We walked over vast hills covered in wildflowers at the top of the world where, often, skylarks sang invisibly in the fog above us. After a long days of walking, we found ourselves at the village pub, sipping a Guinness, eating fish and chips, and listening to Irish music.
