ChattState is home to a state-of-the-art pilot plant located in the WACKER Institute. This pilot plant offers students a comprehensive learning environment that blends classroom and laboratory instruction in chemical operator and process skills.

The award-winning collaboration between ChattState and WACKER Chemie AG has produced some of the best chemical process-engineering technicians in the region.

The Chemical Engineering Technology program of study is taught at the state-of-the-art pilot plant located in the WACKER Institute on Chattanooga State’s main campus. Chemical process-engineering technicians operate and monitor manufacturing processes through the utilization of automated control systems. Several local businesses, including WACKER Polysilicon, periodically offer apprenticeships to our Engineering Technology AAS and Mechatronic Technology AAS students. These programs combine academic and practical experiences with paid, on-the-job training (OJT).

The Mechatronic – E&I Systems track prepares students for careers in skilled maintenance as electrical & instrumentation technicians. Students will receive in-depth instruction and hands-on training in industrial safety, electronics, distribution systems, automation, instrumentation, programmable logic controllers, manufacturing processes, and CAD drawings. This program also offers students a comprehensive learning environment that blends classroom and laboratory instruction with paid, OJT experience at the WACKER Polysilicon plant in nearby Charleston, TN.

The Mechatronic – Mechanical Systems track prepares students for careers in skilled maintenance as mechanical systems technicians. Students will receive in-depth instruction and hands-on training in industrial safety, computer numerical controlled machining, manufacturing processes, fluid power, mechanical maintenance principles, welding, and CAD drawings. This program also offers students a comprehensive learning environment that blends classroom and laboratory instruction with paid OJT experience at the WACKER Polysilicon plant in nearby Charleston, TN.
