Dear Chattanooga State Community,
As we approach the last week of the semester, I would like to take a moment to remind you of the importance of reflection in your academic journey; it’s the secret sauce of success. Reflecting on your experiences allows you to analyze your growth, celebrate your accomplishments, and identify areas for improvement. This process is essential for your personal, academic, and professional development.
To guide you in this reflective exercise, I encourage you to consider the following prompts:
- Evaluate your academic performance: Reflect on the challenges you encountered in your classes and assignments this semester. How did you overcome those challenges? What strategies were successful, and which could be improved upon? How can you apply these lessons to future semesters to continue growing as a learner?
-
Personal and professional development: Contemplate your growth for this semester, including not just academic achievements but also extracurricular activities, internships, volunteer work, or other experiences. How have these experiences influenced your long-term goals and aspirations? What new skills or insights have you gained?
- Balancing priorities and time management:Consider how well you managed your time and priorities throughout the semester. Were you able to balance schoolwork with other commitments, such as work, family, and social life? Which time management strategies were most effective for you, and which ones need improvement? How can you apply these learnings to future semesters to better manage your time and achieve a more balanced lifestyle?
Taking the time to reflect on these prompts will help you recognize your progress, better understand your strengths and weaknesses, and establish a plan for continued growth. I am proud of the hard work and dedication each of you has demonstrated throughout the semester. I encourage you to maintain this momentum and make reflection a regular practice in your educational journey.
Governor Bill Lee signed Senate Bill 834/House Bill 1445 into law effective April 13, 2023.
Referred to as the TikTok law, this new law prohibits Tennessee public higher education institutions like Chattanooga State from allowing access to social media platforms operated or hosted by a company based in China on the institution’s network. The law applies to internet services provided by an institution through a hard-wired or wireless network connection and is effective as of April 13, 2023.
Depending on your browser, if you try to access a site like TikTok from our college network, you will likely encounter one of the following messages: “This site is blocked.” or “Your connection isn’t private.”
This new law means that students, employees, and members of the public will be blocked while using the college’s network if they attempt to access TikTok or other social media platforms that are operated or hosted by a company in China. The law does not prohibit students, employees, or members of the public from accessing TikTok or other such social media platforms operated or hosted by a company in China through an individual’s own personal network connection or a third-party network.
In addition to TikTok, other social media platforms will be impacted if they are operated or hosted by a company in China. The law recognizes several exceptions for law enforcement and compliance related matters.
