Position Summary

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

The theatre department assistants work in a variety of capacities, including assistance in the scene shop, the costume
shop, and with the theatre department admins. Some of our student workers work exclusively with our scenic design
professor on constructing and painting sets, some work directly with our costume design professor on sewing,
laundering, and caring for costumes. Others work with our production manager and artistic director on prop
construction and storage, organization, and administrative tasks. This job can be messy and often involves manual
labor.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must be able to work with measuring equipment like rulers and measuring tape and be able to complete simple math. Candidates must be willing to climb ladders and work with power tools and/or sewing machines.

Work Experience

No previous experience required, but carpentry or sewing work considered a benefit

Preferred Qualifications

Theatre majors will be given first priority in hiring for these positions. Other fine arts majors also considered.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

This job requires some light to moderate lifting, may require going up and down stairs and ladders, and may require
use of heavy equipment, including power tools and sewing machines.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Work Characteristics

Candidates should be punctual, reliable, and be able to follow instructions and maintain a positive attitude. Experience building theatrical sets or costumes is not required, but will be considered an asset.
