President's Update - June 11, 2020

Dear Chattanooga State Community,
It has been good to be on campus a little more this week, and it has been good to see some of you. Be sure to wear your face masks while around others on campus. We keep learning how effective these masks are in reducing the spread of the COVID-19 virus, and we need your help in keeping our campus and community safe.
We have a few important updates this week.

CARES Act Distribution

As many of our students realized last night, distribution of CARES Act funding began Wednesday, June 10 for students who had bank account information on-file. For students who did not have direct deposit set-up, paper checks will be issued this week and mailed to the address currently on file. Please check your Chattanooga State email for important information about the distribution and use of the CARES Act funding. We understand that some students have questions about the amount of funding received, in relation to others at Chattanooga State but also in comparison to other colleges and universities.Chattanooga State opted for the most generous approach in order to provide funding to as many students as possible. The main difference in the amounts received by Chattanooga State students is based on whether or not the student was eligible for federal financial aid (Pell eligible, GI bill, etc.). Other colleges and universities opted to take a different approach in terms of determining eligibility. As a result, fewer students at those colleges and universities received funding thus the students that qualified received a greater amount. If you have additional questions about the CARES Act, please contact caresact@chattanoogastate.edu.

Convocation (Faculty & Staff Update)

We are planning to have a virtual convocation. A committee made up of faculty and staff has been formed to bring this event to life.
