Admission into the nursing program is a competitive process using an objective point system. Selection into the program is based on a comparative evaluation of test scores and transcript information. To be included in the applicant pool students must have:

  • Nursing GPA of at least 2.5
  • Minimum overall college GPA of at least 2.0

 

Day Program

Sequence of eight clinical nursing courses that can be completed in four semesters over two academic years after completion of all prerequisites. A new class is accepted each fall semester.

Academic Advising Information

  • Students are required to complete general education courses prior to entering the sequence of nursing courses.
  • A minimum grade of “C” is required for all general education and nursing curriculum courses to graduate.
  • A&P and Micro must have been taken within five years of enrollment in the first nursing course.
  • Upon acceptance into the RN Program, students will be required to complete a criminal background check and drug screen

 

RN Transition Programs

LPN ---> RN & Paramedic ---> RN

An accelerated curriculum track for LPNs and licensed Paramedics who wish to pursue the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing and RN licensure. Following completion of a summer transition course, LPNs and Paramedics are awarded credit for the first year nursing courses and enter the second year. The RN transition courses are seven credit hours and offered every summer for LPNs and Paramedics.  Applicants must submit documentation of 400 hours of employment in their respective career fields

Admission Checklist

Day / Night application deadline:
March 1st

LPN / Paramedic Transition deadline:
January 15th

* if deadline falls on weekend/holiday; due the following business day.

 


  1. Complete college application if not a current student.
     
  2. The point calculation assessment will include spring courses in progress at the time of the application deadline. Visit the N&AH website at  www.chattanoogastate.edu/nursing- allied-health to find program information and all forms needed for the Nursing Program.
     
  3. Provide official high school and college transcripts to the Chattanooga State Admissions Office. (Take ACT, SAT or Entrance Test if required.)
     
  4. Attend a RN information session (not required, but strongly encouraged)
     
  5. Complete nursing program application:
    • Nursing application is located on the website. Student must designate a preference for either the day or night nursing program.
    • Attach employment documentation form for LPNs and Paramedics.
    • Submit a copy of your TEAS results showing all four scores that you want to use in your point calculation. On the programs website, view ATI TEAS for all important details before and after taking the TEAS test.
       
  6. Students who have previously failed two nursing courses may not be eligible for acceptance and should contact the program director.

 


It is the student’s responsibility to see that all application materials for admission to the college and the nursing program are on file prior to the program deadlines. For an application file to be complete, see program application checklist to make sure all materials have been turned in with application. Additional information will not be accepted following the deadline date.
