April 8th, 2024

Dear Chattanooga State Community,

The end of the spring semester is approaching quickly. This time of the year can be very exciting and stressful at the same time. If you are graduating, you are likely looking forward to celebrating your accomplishments with your families and transitioning to the next phase of your life. Whether you are graduating or continuing at Chattanooga State, the next three weeks will be busy as you finish your final assignments and prepare for final exams.

Despite the tremendous accomplishments you have made by getting to the final three weeks of the semester, you might be feeling unsure of yourself and your ability to successfully complete your classes. If this sounds like you, I encourage you to take advantage of the resources we offer to help you succeed.

Your first resource is always the faculty teaching your courses. If you don’t know how you’re doing in class or need pointers on how to successfully complete a course, talk to your teacher. Your instructor can tell you where you stand and how you can improve, if needed.

Take advantage of the resources within easy reach outside of your classes to help you succeed. We have free tutoring in a variety of subjects available both in person and online. If you need a little support in math, our Math Center can help you. If you need assistance with writing a paper, visit the Reading and Writing Center.

In addition to utilizing these resources, I encourage you to stay focused for the next few weeks. Eliminate as many distractions as possible. Some distractions are not possible to eliminate, like caring for family members, but other distractions are within your control—like scrolling social media. Also, focus on what you need to do today. Break your final three weeks into small pieces so that you are not overwhelmed. Check off your to-do list to feel a sense of accomplishment. Remember, each small step you take gets you one step closer to your goal.

You can do this. It might be challenging, but it will be worth it.
