Tennessee Reconnect Spotlight will feature a first-person story each week...

I thought about going to college to further my stagnant career several years ago. My realization was that I could not afford the hefty price tag, so I gave up on that dream. Then, a couple of years ago, I began to hear about the TN RECONNECT GRANT. After some internet research, it started to look as if this 45-year-old with a full-time job could go back to school.

My wife and I were very excited about this opportunity. I contacted the wonderful staff at CHATTANOOGA STATE, and they explained the program in detail. As well, they gave me some helpful direction such as how to apply and asked me what my career goals were. My interests were in business management. Soon the road to success was paved. Since then, I have completed my freshman year and am at the end of my sophomore year with no student loan debt.  Only five classes left until I get to walk across that stage and write a new chapter to my story.

I can truly say that my self-confidence and my outlook on life has improved by leaps and bounds. My family and my wife, who have been my greatest cheerleaders, have all noticed a positive change in me. Interestingly enough, doors of opportunity started opening for me only halfway through my college career. None of this would have been possible without the wonderful staff at CHATTANOOGA STATE and the TN RECONNECT GRANT.
