Job Expectations
Construction work is a demanding but rewarding career path for individuals who enjoy working outdoors in a continuously changing environment. Constructions workers must focus on safety as construction site hazards exist. The worker should take precautions when lifting to avoid muscle strain or other injuries from handling heavy material and take the necessary precautions around electrical systems to avoid electrical shock.
Expected Earnings
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The median annual wage of construction laborers and helpers is $37,080. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $25,770, and the top 10 percent earned more than $65,780. Wages for construction workers vary based on experience, skill level, industry, and company size.
Although most construction workers work full time, overtime is common in this occupation. Most companies require employees to work hours, ranging from 8 to 12 hours a day. Therefore, construction workers may often work late into the evenings and weekends.
