Training for high-demand careers is critical during times of high unemployment. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Medical Assistants have an expected employment growth rate of 19% over the next 10 years, much faster than the average for all occupations, and report a median annual wage of $34,800.

The one-year Medical Assisting program at Chattanooga State’s Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) is accepting applications for spring 2021 evening classes on the Main Campus and day classes at the Kimball Site.

Medical assistants complete administrative and clinical tasks in hospitals, physicians’ offices, and other healthcare facilities. More than 725,000 individuals were employed as medical assistants in 2019, up from 495,000 in 2009. The rapid growth rate predicted by BLS makes choosing a career in medical assisting a smart choice.

The Medical Assisting program will be offered in a hybrid format at both the Main Campus and the Kimball Site. At the Main campus, the virtual portion of the class meets Monday and Friday while in-person classes meet Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:15 to 10:00 p.m.

At the Kimball Site, the virtual portion of the class meets Monday and Friday while in-person classes meet Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. (central time). TCAT programs begin January 13, 2021.
