Chattanooga State Presents 2020 Philanthropy Awards
July 30, 2020 | Betty A. Proctor | Press Release
Chattanooga State Community College held its inaugural virtual Philanthropy Awards Ceremony on July 27, recognizing The Osbourne Foundation and The Tucker Foundation for their commitment to student success at Chattanooga State. “As firmly established donors to the Chattanooga State Foundation, The Osbourne Foundation and The Tucker Foundation have invested heavily in Chattanooga State — and their philanthropic investments have made a huge impact,” notes Chattanooga State President Dr. Rebecca Ashford.
The Tucker Foundation, recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Philanthropy, presented by Tennessee Board of Regents Chancellor Dr. Flora Tydings, contributed more than $350,000 to the Chattanooga State Foundation since 2002. Amy Moore, vice president of The Tucker Foundation, accepted the award, noting, “We are pleased to play a part in the Chattanooga State success story.”
The Weldon F. Osbourne Foundation, recipient of the Regents Award for Excellence in Philanthropy, presented by Regent Weston Wamp, contributed more than $250,000 to the Chattanooga State Foundation since June of 2007. Executive Director of The Osbourne Foundation, Barbara Marter, accepted the award, stating, “When your students are successful, lives are transformed and our community is stronger.”
Because of the generosity of these two foundations, and the many other donors who support the college, Chattanooga State was one of nine community colleges nationwide to earn “Leader College” status earlier this year by Achieving the Dream. “This milestone represents a huge campus collaboration over the past few years to change the trajectory of our student outcomes, and particularly improve student success among low-income students and students of color,” stated Dr. Ashford. “I am proud to recognize both The Osborne Foundation and The Tucker Foundation for their philanthropic leadership.”
Gifts to the Chattanooga State Foundation each year help to continue to accelerate the impact of the Chattanooga State experience by addressing the greatest needs across the campus, covering tuition and fees for deserving students, and providing professional development for faculty and staff.
