Time is running out to enroll for fall 2019 classes at Chattanooga State Community College. The Engineering Technology degree offers two nuclear-related concentrations: nuclear power engineering technology and radiation protection.

Nuclear power technology graduates have worked as reactor mechanics with Westinghouse and BHI Energy, as well as starting their career as a non-licensed operator for the following companies: TVA, Exelon, Southern Co., Duke, & STP. Pay rates depend on the employer & location, but generally begin at $25-$40 per hour.

The radiation protection program allows students to work in nuclear power, remediation, national laboratories, or radiological waste facilities. Graduates are currently working for TVA, BHI Energy, NorthWind Solutions, Exelon, & Oak Ridge National Labs. Like nuclear power, radiation protection pay depends on the employer and location, but generally starts at $23-$39 per hour.

Using TN Reconnect, there is no better time for adults to apply at Chattanooga State Community College. If you are 24 or older and do not have a degree, you could attend Chattanooga State tuition free. Nuclear students can also apply for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission scholarship at Chattanooga State.
