Food and shelter insecurity are common and can make focusing on education feel impossible. The good news is that there are many community options to help meet basic needs!

The Homeless Student Liaison, Tammy McDonough, assists students who are enrolled, or planning to enroll, at ChattState. This liaison understands the provisions pertaining to financial aid eligibility of homeless students and is available to help connect those students with available resources.

Hamilton County

• Chattanooga State’s Tiger Cupboard offers students a range of food options, from a quick snack while on campus to a take-home box. The pantry is located in the Student Center, room 215. Open times are Monday-Thursday from 10-2 and on Fridays from 11-1.
• The TN Department of Human Services helps with application for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program).
• Chattanooga Community Kitchen provides hot meals and hygiene items on a daily basis.
• Chattanooga Rescue Mission and Family Promise provide food and temporary shelter, as well as other programming for families.
• United Way of Chattanooga assists with food and crisis issues.
• Chattanooga Room at the Inn houses women and children.
• The Chattanooga Regional Homeless Coalition advocates for local homeless citizens.
• The Chattanooga Housing Authority can assist with finding affordable housing.
• The Helping Hands Fund can be accessed through the Student Support Center.

Marion County

• Marion County Community Ministries can help with food and utility bills.
