Chattanooga State Community College has received full approval from the Tennessee Board of Nursing to resume its Practical Nursing Program at Chattanooga State. The NCLEX pass rate for 2017 rose to 91 percent, which is up from the 2016 pass rate of 78 percent. The NCLEX exam, also known as the National Council Licensure Examination, is a standardized exam that each state board of nursing uses to determine whether or not a candidate is prepared for entry-level nursing practice.

The next LPN class is scheduled to begin May 6, 2018. Students have to be 18 years or older to apply and to have graduated from high school. The following prerequisite classes are needed to apply for the Practical Nursing Program at Chattanooga State. The Anatomy & Physiology (A&P) courses must be completed within the last five years, from a regionally accredited college, and require a grade of “81” or “B” or greater in order to apply to the Practical Nursing Program.

Prerequisite classes include:

A&P I & II (including lab)
Medical Math/Dosage Calculation – this is offered through the Continuing Education Department at Chattanooga State only, grade of “B” or greater required
TEAS test- score of 55 percent or more, good for two years of application deadline

Admission to the Practical Nursing Program is done on a points system. The above classes are included in that points system for admission. Other classes included in the points system that need to have been completed in the last five years are:

Nutrition
Medical Terminology
Computer Applications
