Tiger Totality Events Celebrate Solar Eclipse

The 2017 Solar Eclipse frenzy has spread to Chattanooga State Community College. Although the actual eclipse date is Monday, August 21, ChattState has planned a series of activities to celebrate this once in a lifetime event.
The Tiger Totality Fun Facts Trivia Quiz already has been active on social media and in the library. Visitors can check out daily trivia questions each day through August 21 days followed by a drawing with a chance to win swag on August 22. Additional activities at the library will include a book display on Solar Eclipses starting August 14, and free multiple showings of the 61-minute movie, Chasing Shadows on August 17-18 at 10:30 a.m., 12:00, 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 p.m.
The Engineering and information Technologies division is hosting a “Solar System Potluck” from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the CETAS building, followed by “Sun S’Mores in a Solar Oven” from 2-4 p.m. on August 17 in the CETAS Building courtyard.
A Lunch and Learn presentation on “Solar Eclipse Mythology” will be facilitated by Associate Professor Bill Stifler in the Library Mobile Classroom in the IMC building on August 17 from 12 – 1:00 p.m.
Join the Math & Science division in the Library’s Riverside Café any time between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from August 14-18 where The Planetarium will be set up for viewing and provide a show about solar eclipses. Then, on August 21, the “Tiger Totality” viewing party will take place on the football field behind the Chattanooga State Dayton site, where information on eye safety also will be distributed. Anyone who plans to attend this event must sign a waiver. Viewing glasses will be provided while supplies last.
To help protect your eyes from the eclipse, the Nursing & Allied Health division is hosting optometry specialist, Dr. Charles Sanders, who will discuss “Eye Safety and the Solar Eclipse” on August 18 from 12-12:45 p.m. in the Health Science Center building, room 1087.
To help understand the social aspect of the eclipse, the Social & Behavioral Sciences division will display posters in the Library showcasing “Sunlight in Mental Health” and “Cultural Significance of the Solar Eclipse” between August 14-17. On August 18, the posters will be relocated to the Center for Advanced Technology building lobby. Faculty members Michael McCamish, Robin Popp, and Emily Dunlap will engage faculty, staff, and students in their presentation and provide fun, informative, and celebratory activities from 2-3:30 p.m. in room C-30.
