The Langston Hughes Project will be held at the Humanities Theatre on Thursday, February 16. There will be a campus performance at 11 a.m. and a public performance at 4 p.m. The Langston Hughes Project is a multimedia concert performance of Langston Hughes’ jazz poem suite Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods for Jazz. The twelve-part epic poem incorporates all types of musical styles such as blues, gospel, progressive jazz, Latin, Afro-Cuban mambo music, German lieder, Jewish liturgy, and more. The concert also features the Ron McCurdy Quartet and Chattanooga State’s John Stigall Spoken Word Contest winners.

The Langston Hughes Project is designed to inspire people to become more curious about their past and to gain a better understanding of how we as people can learn to live, work, and play better together.
