ChattState Welding Students Create Zoo Decorations
December 8, 2015 | | Press Release
Chattanooga, TN (December 8, 2015) --- In a course that involves a combination of basic welding techniques as well as other technical aspects of welding, students in Bobby Day’s evening class got a chance to try something a little different.
Day, an associate instructor of welding in the Tennessee College of Applied Technology, was contacted by Britlee Gaines, from the Chattanooga Zoo, to see if his class would be interested in building some Christmas decorations out of metal to be placed at the Zoo.
The class never had done any type of artistic sculpture before, according to Day, so he and his students do what most people do when they want information; they turned to the Internet and googled “Christmas decorations made of metal.” After seeing an idea for a reindeer, other traditional Christmas-type decorations that included a Christmas tree, snowman and candy canes were designed and created by the class. Class members include Corey Marler, Bradley Co.; Levi Wiley, Polk Co.; Andrew Blaylock, Walker Co.; David Berek, Catoosa Co.; and Patric Brady, Hamilton Co.
The decorations are now on display at the Chattanooga Zoo. For more information about the Welding program at Chattanooga State in the Tennessee College of Applied Technology, see https://www.chattanoogastate.edu/welding-technology.
