<p>Chattanooga, TN --- The Chattanooga State Veterinary Technology program recently received full accreditation by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA). This voluntary accreditation process is the standard by which educational institutions are evaluated for quality based on conformity with established materials.</p>

<p>As the only accredited veterinary technology program in the immediate area, graduates of the program may sit for the Veterinary Technician National Exam. In the state of Tennessee, applicants are required to be a graduate of an accredited program before becoming a Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician (LVMT).</p>

<p>Program accreditation requires that a comprehensive self-study be written and submitted prior to the site visit team arriving on campus. In addition to inspecting the teaching facilities, equipment, and records, the team also met with the general education faculty, library personnel, the program advisory committee, students and graduates.</p>

<p>The site visit team was composed of a local public member, a veterinarian that is a member of the Hamilton County Veterinary Medical Association, a member of the CVTEA–in this case a licensed veterinary technician from the University of Georgia Veterinary College, a licensed veterinary technician from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, and an assistant director from the AVMA Center for Veterinary Medical Accreditation.</p>
