4th Annual Community Health, Fun, and Wellness Expo + “Operation Medicine Cabinet”

April 26, 2011 | | Press Release

The Community Health Institute at Chattanooga State will host the “4th Annual Health, Fun, and Wellness Expo” Friday, April 29 from 9am-1pm in the Health Science Center located on the Amnicola campus. This is a large comprehensive health fair that is open to the public offering numerous free health screenings and exhibits from area health professionals and wellness-related organizations. Parking is free and easily accessible.

In addition, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office will conduct “Operation Medicine Cabinet”, a drug take back program where the public may turn in unwanted medications for proper disposal to help keep medications out of the hands of children and our water supply. Those wishing to turn in medications can simply drive through the drop off circle without having to leave their vehicle. Pharmacists will also be available to answer questions.

At 1:00pm, weather permitting, Outdoor Chattanooga will host a fun recreational event starting at the Riverwalk behind Chattanooga State to combine into motion the wellness concept of the health fair with the clean water aspect of “Operation Medicine Cabinet”. Participants can walk, bike, skate, or paddle the river to the main pavilion at the Riverpark where Bruster’s Ice Cream will host a after party celebrating the day’s events. The public may also bring their own bikes, canoes, or kayaks.

Sponsors include:, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee Community Trust, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Chattanooga State, Chattem, Outdoor Chattanooga, Walgreens and Walmart. For information regarding sponsorship or exhibitor registration, please contact Dr. Nancy Watts at Nancy.Watts@Chattanoogastate.edu.
