October 6, 2009 | | Press Release

Chattanooga State will host the fall meeting of the Southeast Tennessee Regional P-16 Council on Tuesday, October 13.  The luncheon meeting convenes at 11:30 a.m. on Chattanooga State’s main campus in the Faculty/Staff Dining Room in the Albright Omniplex building.

The meeting will address emerging state-wide teaching quality initiatives.  Dr. Rick Short, associate dean for the College of Education & Behavioral Sciences at Middle Tennessee State University and Dr. Kandi Hill-Clarke, associate vice chancellor for Academic Affairs for the Tennessee Board of Regents, will provide an overview of the Tennessee Board of Regents Teacher Education Redesign, a mandate to revitalize the teacher education programs within the TBR colleges and universities.

The Southeast Tennessee Regional P-16 Council is a consortium of individuals representing Bledsoe, Hamilton, Marion, and Rhea counties.  Members of the Southeast Tennessee Regional P-16 Council include business executives, nonprofit leaders, elected officials, and educators.

Focused on establishing partnerships between business, education and government, the P-16 movement in Tennessee has become the catalyst for improving academic achievement across the state.  Each regional council meets quarterly to coordinate efforts and incorporate enhancements to eliminate educational gaps.  Ultimately, the goal of each P-16 regional council is to mobilize communities to integrate strong educational programs that ready and prepare students for postsecondary success.
