Chattanooga State Receives Contribution from Kiwanis Club of Fort Oglethorpe

July 21, 2009 | | Press Release

The Kiwanis Club of Fort Oglethorpe recently contributed $3,000 in support of Chattanooga State’s health science campaign known as “We have the fever!”  The Kiwanis Club designated the gift for the W. Leonard Fant Scholarship, an endowed fund that provides financial support to students studying for a career in healthcare.

On behalf of Chattanooga State, Mr. Fant and his daughter, Lynn Fant-Burke, accepted the gift from Ms. Christine McKeever, president of the Kiwanis Club of Fort Oglethorpe and Mr. Greg Anderson, president-elect.  According to Ms. McKeever, Leonard Fant has an extensive and esteemed association with the Kiwanis Club.  “This gift to the W. Leonard Fant Scholarship allows the Kiwanis Club to pay tribute to a deeply concerned and committed community citizen,” said Ms. McKeever.  “We are pleased and honored to have the opportunity to express our appreciation for his years of service and to recognize his countless civic accomplishments.”

The “We have the fever!” capital campaign complements a grant award of $28.5 million from the State of Tennessee.  All funds, both provided by the State of Tennessee and raised during the campaign, are being used to significantly impact Chattanooga State’s health science program.  The signature project for the campaign is the construction of Chattanooga State’s Health Science Center.  A state-of-the-art educational center, the new building will also be the second largest health science facility in Tennessee.  The W. Leonard Fant Scholarship is an integral part of the “We have the fever!” capital campaign, for which Mr. Fant and Mr. Grady P. Williams are general co-chairmen.
