Chattanooga State Salutes Middle College High School Valedictorian

April 30, 2009 | | Press Release

On Monday, May 4, Dr. James Catanzaro, president of Chattanooga State Technical Community College, will salute the accomplishments of Bailey Farrell, the 2009 valedictorian of Middle College High School.  Dr. Catanzaro will acknowledge Bailey during a meeting of the President’s Cabinet in the Faculty/Staff Dining Room at 9 a.m.

A former award-winning gymnast, Bailey was selected by the Prudential Insurance Company of America as one of its 2009 Distinguished Finalists for The Prudential Spirit of Community Award.  This award recognizes the extraordinary enthusiasm of young people who are impacting their communities and inspiring others through their commitment to community service.  Prudential Insurance Company chose Bailey based on her work as the director of the Chattanooga operation of the New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program.  In this role, Bailey actively rescues and rehabilitates off-the-track thoroughbred and standardbred horses for a life outside the racing industry.

“Bailey’s devotion to the horses in her care is moving,” says Angela Daniel, principal of Middle College High School.  “But her devotion reaches into the classroom too.  She is an excellent student who will have success in college and in her career.”  As a Middle College High School student, Bailey concentrated her studies in engineering and math.  In the fall, she will join the student body of Stanford University as a member of the freshman class.  Stanford University elected Bailey from an applicant pool of 30,428 students.  Her plans are to major in biomechanical engineering.
