Chattanooga State Sponsors Lunchtime Discussions on Evolution

February 12, 2009 | | Press Release

Chattanooga State Technical Community College invites the public to attend a series of two lunchtime presentations focused on Charles Darwin and evolution.  Led by David Wollert, associate professor of biology, the forums are intentionally informal and will take place on Chattanooga State’s main campus at 4501 Amnicola Highway in Room 126 of the Omniplex building.  Participants are encouraged to bring a bag lunch.   The dates, times and topics are noted below.

February 16, 12 noon-“Evolution, Creation Science, & Intelligent Design”

February 23, 12 noon-“The Evolution of Evolution: Darwin in the 21st Century”

As a scholar, Wollert has extensively researched the life of Charles Darwin.  He is also the writer, director, and producer of a documentary film, Paradise Lost: The Religious Life of Charles Darwin.  “I want to present evolution and Charles Darwin through a dialogue that generates positive conversations about science and religion,” stresses Wollert.  “These lunchtime discussions are timely because 2009 marks the 200th anniversary of Darwin’s birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his most notable work, On the Origin of Species.  The timing is perfect to engage the public in this discourse.”

Both lunchtime presentations are open to the public free of charge.
