Associate of Science in Teaching (AST) Degree
Chattanooga State offers an Associate of Science in Teaching (AST) degree, which builds a strong foundation for teacher preparation programs, and future employment as teachers. Classes require students to apply concepts from coursework to fieldwork.
Flexible Scheduling
All courses for AST degrees can be taken online or on campus.
Transferring
AST degrees are designed to transfer smoothly toward Bachelor’s degrees at most regional four-year universities. AST graduates will have completed all coursework and Teacher Disposition Statements. Graduates must also obtain the necessary ACT or Praxis CORE test scores, and the necessary GPA required for admission into four-year programs.

Early Childhood Education (for Pre-Kindergarten - Third Grade)
Teachers Inside the Classroom
To become a licensed teacher in Tennessee Pre-Kindergarten - Third Grade classrooms, students must complete a four-year degree.
Most regional four-year universities recognize AST graduates as having already completed the requirements for admission into their Early Childhood Education (Pre-Kindergarten - Third Grade) programs.
Teachers Outside the Classroom
Most outside of classroom settings do not require Early Childhood Eduction professionals to have licensure.
