Volkswagen Chattanooga, Chattanooga State and Tennessee Tech Announce New 2 + 2 Partnership in Engineering

June 6, 2011 | | Press Release

Volkswagen Group of America, Chattanooga Operations, Chattanooga State Community College and Tennessee Technological University will announce the creation of a new 2+2 partnership between the two educational institutions leading to a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology. Details of the new program will be announced on Wednesday, June 8 at 11 a.m. at the Volkswagen Academy in Enterprise South.

Employees of Volkswagen Chattanooga will be among the first students accepted into the program. Furthermore, classes will be taught exclusively at the Volkswagen Academy. Classes are set to begin in the fall semester on September 6 as part of the flex schedule. Flex schedule classes, also known as late start classes, begin two to three weeks after the traditional beginning of the semester in August.

The goal of the program is to blend the very best of what Chattanooga State and Tennessee Tech University have to offer academically with the training resources available at the Volkswagen Academy. A 2+2 partnership means that students are “dually” enrolled at both Chattanooga State and Tennessee Tech University.

Students can complete their fist two years at Chattanooga State pursing an associate of applied science degree with a concentration in Mechanical Engineering Technology. Upon completion of their A.A.S. degree, the student can seamlessly transfer to Tennessee Tech University to work on their B.S. degree without having to reapply. In addition, students will continue to take their classes at the Volkswagen Academy while pursing a bachelor’s degree.
