Chattanooga, Tenn.--- Chattanooga State Community College will host “Transfer to ChattState Day” on Tuesday, July 17 from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. in the faculty/staff dining room located in the Omniplex Building on the main campus.

The event is specifically designed for students who may have attended another college or university and now, for whatever reason, desire to transfer to Chattanooga State. “Chattanooga State offers numerous advantages for students including more economical fees and tuition, two-year career programs leading to employment, the opportunity to be closer to home, tutoring and labs that help students better prepare themselves for college level work, and more individualized attention,” says Robin Smith, coordinator of recruiting services.”

To expedite the enrollment process, those attending the event are asked to bring a copy of their transcript. An official transcript is not required for this event. However, an official copy of a college transcript must be submitted to complete the enrollment process.

An article in the February issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education written by staff reporter Jennifer Gonzalez said an increasing number of college students are transferring between institutions. Many of these students engage in “reverse transfer,” meaning they leave a four-year college or university preferring to continue their studies at a two-year college. Gonzalez’s article was based on data released by the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, which collaborates with a variety of educational organizations such as higher education institutions, states, school districts, etc, to better inform educational leaders and policymakers through accurate “longitudinal data outcomes reporting.”

According to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center’s statistics, one-third of all students switch institutions at least once before earning a degree. Thus, the traditional trend of entering and matriculating through the same institution until graduation is on the decline. The five-year study followed nearly 2.8 million students, both full-time and part-time, at all types of educational institutions from 2006 through 2011.
