Chattanooga State Community College’s Design/Drafting Engineering Technology, Non-Destructive Testing Technology and Nuclear Power Engineering Technology programs of study recently received accreditation from the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), http://abet.org. ABET is the recognized accrediting body for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering and technology.

“Maintaining accredited programs are not only good for the college but ensures that our students are receiving a rigorous and relevant educational experience,” stated Lyn Price, coordinator for engineering technology division. “It confirms program consistency, demands continuous improvement, and sets benchmarks for programs to achieve. ABET assists in verifying that the quality and rigor of a program meets what business and industry demands. It’s an affirmation that Chattanooga State’s engineering technology programs are meeting the same rigorous standards as some of the leading institutions around the country like Purdue or Texas A&M - for similar programs,” she added.

According to Tim McGhee, dean of the engineering technology division, “the ABET site teams were very impressed with our industry advisory boards during their visit.  Our business partners represent the needs of their respective industries and make the connections between our programs and the competencies necessary for our graduates to be successful as engineering technicians – we sincerely appreciate their time, many talents, and commitment to this effort.

Chattanooga State’s Engineering Technology Division now has nine ETAC-ABET accredited programs: Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, Design/Drafting Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Non-Destructive Testing Technology, Nuclear Power Engineering Technology, and Radiation Protection concentrations in the AAS Engineering Technology degree, Automated Controls and Computer Systems concentration in the AAS Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology degree and one ASAC-ABET accredited program: General Engineering in the AAS Applied Science degree.
