SkillsUSA National Competition Names TCAT Chattanooga Winners

Chattanooga, TN (August 3, 2016) --- Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) students from Chattanooga State Community College recently returned from the 52nd Annual National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC) in Louisville, Kentucky. SkillsUSA NLSC is a showcase featuring career and technical education students. More than 6,000 of these students, who were all state contest winners, competed hands-on in 100 different trade, technical and leadership fields.

During the statewide competition this past spring in Chattanooga, Tennessee, students who won gold medals earned the right to advance to the national competition. These students competed in 13 events and eight of them earned medals.

Gold:

Quiz Bowl – Rick Mahoney, Mike Hall, Sara Wilson, Chantal Simmons & Daniel Clements; Jill Wentworth, advisor.

Silver:

Marine Service Technology – Weston Jeno; Jimmy Jones & Ed Grun, advisors.

Bronze:

Employment Application Process – Connie Davis; Diane Jackson, advisor.

Medical Assisting – Alondra Gomez; Cindy Rutledge, advisor.
