Chattanooga State Community College will offer training courses in film and television production as part of its 2010 fall semester class roster.  Enrollment is open to all individuals-from high school aged students to mature adults-who are interested in acquiring the skills necessary to work in the television and film industry.  Space availability is limited and offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Each class centers on fast-track technical training that prepares students to work in the production of movies, television programs, and commercials.  Chattanooga State is one of only a few community colleges in the United States offering this specific type of training.  Students will have access to state-of-the-art equipment in an instructional, hands-on learning environment.  Dave Porfiri, the college’s highly credentialed and knowledgeable instructor, relies on his real-world experience to ensure the training meets trade expectations and workforce demands.  Unlike courses with a theory-based curriculum, the television and film production classes at Chattanooga State model realistic situations to ensure students garner practical and specific job skills.

Offered on Wednesday evenings, the television and film production classes are noted below.

• Introduction to Film and Television Technology (PFTT- 250) Students focus on learning about how the television and film industry works and the steps they need to take to plan for a career.
• Production Assistant Internship (PFTT- 251) Students work as interns with local production companies and gain experience working on film and TV productions that are shooting in the region.
• Advanced Production Workshop: Location Management (PFTT- 256) Students learn the details about budgeting, scheduling, and administering film and TV productions, which are critical skills necessary for employment in this region.

Upon successful completion of the coursework and internship hours, students earn a certification, awarded through the Chattanooga Film Commission, as a production assistant.  After individuals obtain their certification, they are included on a list of potential crew members, which the television and film industry references when needing to hire production professionals for regional shoots.
