Chattanooga State has long recognized the importance of leadership development and its critical role in creating a well-trained workforce. In collaboration with Miller Industries, Chattanooga State has developed a customized workforce development solution. Eleven employees completed 48.5 hours of training and are better prepared to meet expected goals, resolve conflict effectively, handle change successfully, build relationships and high performing teams, and increase overall communication.

Class topics included: DiSC, Communication for Leadership Success, Resolving Workplace Conflicts, Crucial Conversations, managing Bias, Coaching for Peak Performance, Setting Goals and Reviewing Results, Building and Sustaining Trust, Strategies for Influencing Others, Essential Interviewing Skills, Driving Change, Transition Management, Effective Problem Solving, Leadout Simulation.

Following training, students had a much better understanding of goals and shared these comments:

“When you move from the floor to supervision, there is more to deal with. I have a better understanding of other people’s problems as a result of the training.”
“I enjoyed getting to know people from other departments. I did not know what they did and the issues they have to deal with before I completed the training.”
“I enjoyed the training on setting goals. I can see how close I am to a goal and what I can do to get there faster.”
“The Leadout Simulation was a great team building experience. Any ‘one’ of us will not make Miller Industries successful, it takes the whole team to be successful.”

Managers understood the value of Chattanooga State’s Miller U training and were pleased that it prepared their staff to communicate effectively and be well equipped for challenges.

This training series concludes the tenth series of “Miller U” Leadership Universities that Chattanooga State has conducted for Miller Industries. The training partnership began in 2010 and has included training at the corporate office in Ooltewah, TN, as well as plants in Greeneville, TN and Hermitage, PA. Miller Industries was founded in 1990 and is the World’s Largest Manufacturer of Towing and Recovery Equipment.
