Local Waffle House Restaurants Support Chattanooga State’s GED Program

October 19, 2010 | | Press Release

Responding to reductions in state funding for GED programs, the owners of sixteen Chattanooga area Waffle House restaurants have aligned with Chattanooga State Community College and agreed to donate a $1 from the purchase of every waffle to help sustain the college’s GED training and testing program.  Known as “Don’t Waffle on Education,” this distinctive and creative campaign begins on Monday, October 25, and continues through Sunday, October 31.

Father and son, Don Lewis and Kirk Lewis, are the proprietors of the Waffle House restaurants in Chattanooga.  Ardent supporters of higher education, the Lewis family references the example set forth by Joe Rogers, Waffle House co-founder.  "Joe Rogers was committed to his community and his customers,” says Mr. Lewis.  “His statement, “We are not in the food business...we are in the people business,” has guided our business philosophy.  My father and I are pleased that Chattanooga State gives Waffle House an opportunity to support education.  We hope that the larger Chattanooga community will eat with us and support education during the week of October 25-31.
