Local Subway Restaurants Support Chattanooga State

February 4, 2010 | | Press Release

Chattanooga State Community College will partner with two area Subway restaurants during the month of February to support the college’s Project AHEAD program.  The two participating Subway stores, located at 2610 Amnicola Highway and 4420 Highway 58, will contribute 10% of the proceeds the two stores receive on each of the four Fridays during the month of February.  The promotion, “Take Subway to Success,” launches on Friday, February 5 and continues each Friday during the month.  The final three dates are February 12, 19, and 26.

Project AHEAD is an initiative designed to support low-income adults who traditionally do not possess the skills, the resources, or the self-determination to enter college.  Developed by Chattanooga State, Project AHEAD intervenes with these adults to guide and support them throughout their college experience.

According to Michelle Olson, director of retention and educational outreach at Chattanooga State, Project AHEAD has become a pivotal program for many adult students.  “For certain adults, the college classroom is an intimating environment; a world removed from their current realities,” says Olson.  “Some adult students need assistance and direction: a personal, one-on-one approach that nurtures their confidence and sustains their enthusiasm.  The purpose of Project AHEAD is to provide this type of support that prepares adult students for college and, hopefully, for success in their future pursuits.”
