Chattanooga, TN --- Chattanooga State Community College will host the 19^th Annual Regional Science Olympiad Tournament for middle and high school students on Saturday, February 16 in the Omni.  Science Olympiad tournaments strive to bring science to life; to develop teamwork and cooperative learning strategies among students; to make science education more exciting; to promote high levels of achievement and a commitment to excellence among both teachers and students; and to attract more students particularly females and minorities to professional and technical careers in science, technology and science teaching.

Beginning at 9 a.m., students will compete as teams in two separate divisions in 23 different science and technology events.  This year’s tournament will involve 14 teams from 10 schools, 7 teams in the middle school division and 7 teams in the high school division.

In Division B, the middle school division, teams from Bledsoe County Middle School, Cleveland Middle School, Explorers Home School Academy, Orchard Knob Middle School and South-Doyle Middle School will compete.

In Division C, the high school division, the competing teams will be Bledsoe County High School, Cleveland High School, East Hamilton High School, The McCallie School, and Signal Mountain High School.  These 200 plus students will compete in such events as Crime Busters, Disease Detective, Dynamic Planet, Food Science and Rotor Egg Drop among many others.

At 3 p.m., medals will be awarded to the top three teams in each event. The top two teams in each division will receive a trophy and advance to the state tournament to be held at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville on April 6.
