Art / Music: The Art and Soul of Jazz

We are thrilled to announce the upcoming Art & Soul of Jazz Festival at Chattanooga State Community College on February 20, 2023! This exciting event will bring together the vibrant worlds of art, music, food, and culture for a day of celebration and creativity.
Art: Works Exhibition
FEBRUARY 20 (MONDAY)
Location: Humanities Theatre Gallery
In collaboration with the “Art and Soul of Jazz” event, a selection of recent student work from the Fine Arts classes including Foundations 1 & 2, Drawing 1 & 2, Painting, Digital Photography, Film and Ceramics will presented in the Humanities Theatre Gallery.
Theatre / Music: Me and My Shadow Productions presents You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown
FEBRUARY 25 AT 7:30 PM (SATURDAY)
Location: Humanities Theatre
Based on the beloved comic strips by Charles Schulz, this musical brings Charlie Brown, his dog snoopy, and the whole Peanuts gang to life through music, dance, and vignettes. This is a Shadow Interpreted production of the musical, with each of the main characters having an American Sign Language interpreter with them on stage. The performance is free and open to the public.
Music: “Music of the World” featuring the Symphonic Band
MARCH 2 AT 7:00 PM (THURSDAY)
Location: Humanities Theatre
Join the Chattanooga State Symphonic Band for a musical journey around the world. The round-trip will include musical stops in Spain, England, Russia, Italy, Korea, and of course, America! The Symphonic Band is led by Nicholas Hartline and includes students from the college, the STEM School of Chattanooga, Collegiate High School, as well as community volunteers.

MARCH 23 AT 7:00 PM (THURSDAY)
Location: Humanities Theatre
The Chattanooga State Jazz band presents an evening of jazz standards, under the musical direction of Jay Stanfill.

Location: Humanities Theatre Gallery
Annual end of the year student exhibition. A juried selection of recent student work from the Fine Arts classes including Foundations 1 & 2, Drawing 1 & 2, Painting, Digital Photography, Film Photography, Sculpture and Ceramics.
Music: Concert Choir
APRIL 1 AT 7:00 PM (SATURDAY)
Location: Humanities Theatre
Community Sing-OUT: Saturday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m. Chattanooga State’s Concert Choir and volunteers will perform the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music. Two community rehearsals on Thursday and Friday, March 30 and 31 at 7:00 p.m. are open to all interested singers from the campus or the community. Music will be provided. Singers of all ages are welcome.

APRIL 2 AT 3:00 PM (SUNDAY)
Location: Humanities Theatre
The faculty trio Chattywampus, led by flutist Cindy Solfest-Wallis, clarinetist Nicholas Hartline, and pianist Alan Nichols, will present an evening of chamber music from various musical periods and styles.
Music: Ezekiel Jones Piano Recital
APRIL 11 AT 8:00 PM (TUESDAY)
Location: Humanities Theatre
Graduating high school senior Ezekiel Jones will present a solo piano recital featuring works by Haydn, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, and others. Ezekiel is a dual enrollment student at Chattanooga State.

APRIL 13 AT 7:00 PM (THURSDAY)
Location: Humanities Theatre
Chattanooga State students of vocal and instrumental applied study will perform a recital of selected musical works of the classical, contemporary, and traditional American repertories.
Music: “Solo!” featuring the Symphonic Band
APRIL 18 AT 7:00 PM (TUESDAY)
Location: Humanities Theatre
Please join us for “Solo!” – a student showcase featuring solo performances by several talented students. These pieces will be accompanied by the Chattanooga State Symphonic Band. The Symphonic Band is led by Nicholas Hartline and includes students from the college, the STEM School of Chattanooga, Collegiate High School, as well as community volunteers.

APRIL 28-29 AT 7:30 PM (FRIDAY-SATURDAY) & APRIL 30 AT 2:30 PM (SUNDAY)
Location: Humanities Theatre
Based on the children’s novel of the same name by Natalie Babbit, this is a musical with music by Chris Miller, lyrics by Nathan Tysen, and book by Claudia Shear and Tim Federle. It tells the story of eleven year-old Winnie Foster who years for adventure and unexpectedly becomes friends with the Tuck family. After learning their family secret, she must protect it at all cost while she faces her own decision to return to her family or continue on her adventure with the Tucks. Tickets are $15 for the general public, and FREE for ChattState students, faculty, staff, and theatre alumni.

Come enjoy performances by acting and musical theatre students and see showcases of work by design/tech students. Some scenes may include mature content not suitable for children.
