DISCOVERY EDUCATION PARTNERS WITH CHATTANOOGA STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Silver Spring, Md. – Discovery Education has announced the launch of Discovery Education Higher Ed, a new digital content service specifically designed for community college instructors and students. Discovery Education has partnered with Chattanooga State Community College and Bossier Parish Community College to bring Discovery Education Higher Ed to classrooms through a pilot program.
“Discovery Education is excited to partner with Chattanooga State Community College and Bossier Parish Community College to bring current, relevant and engaging resources to instructors and students,” said Scott Kinney, senior vice president, Discovery Education. “The partnership demonstrates the schools’ commitment to providing students with resources that will help them develop the skills necessary to enter a competitive workforce.”
“Participating in the pilot program is part of our ongoing efforts to provide teachers and students with current and innovative resources and high-quality content,” said Dr. James Catanzaro of Chattanooga State Community College. “We are excited to be among the first community colleges to use the Discovery Education Higher Ed service in our classrooms." Chattanooga State will begin piloting Biology and American History I across the campus.
Discovery Education Higher Ed provides curriculum-based, digital content to community colleges across the U.S. to prepare students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be competitive in today’s job market. Comprised of subscription-based and free content, the service offers instructors and students resources that are current, relevant and engaging, including video clips, ebook passages and more. Discovery Education developed Discovery Education Higher Ed in collaboration with the Higher Education Research & Development Institute (HERDI) and its advisory board of community college presidents.
In addition to Chattanooga State, Bossier Parish, Daytona (FL), Lone Star (TX), Montgomery (PA), will be piloting the service as well. Discovery Education Higher Ed is currently available for pilot with sixteen courses within the disciplines of Natural and Physical Science, Mathematics, History and English. The service will fully launch with 33 courses across 10 disciplines for the 2012-2013 academic year.
