The Chatty Awards honor Chattanooga State Community College faculty and staff members for excellence each spring. This unique event includes awards, but also injects a good dose of fun and laughter to lighten everyone’s day. 

Patty Brown and Hisel Gobble were both recognized for 40 years of service to the College, while 64 additional employees reached milestones of between five and 35 years of service.

Annual awards were presented to Jacob Stanford, Teaching Excellence in Arts & Sciences; Richard Clements, Excellence in Advising; Michael Mercer, Teaching Excellence in Technology; Kirsten Jones, Support Staff excellence; and Amy Campbell, Professional Staff excellence.

Recognized as 2018-19 Faculty Fellows were Scott Douglass & Allison Fetters, Amanda Wynn Humanities & Fine Arts Fellowship; Liz Norell, Bill Taylor and Skylar Davidson, Bea Lyons Social & Behavioral Sciences Fellowship.

The Maxine Smith Fellowships awarded by the College System of Tennessee (TBR) were presented to Anita Polk-Conley and Diane Jackson.

All People’s Choice Award winners are nominated and chosen by campus community vote; however, the Chatty Award nominees are first reviewed by the Chatty committee and narrowed down to the top five nominees who are then chosen through campus community vote. The 2019 Chatty Award was presented to Elaine Hill, coordinator of Academic Integrity. Other People’s Choice Awards went to Donna Shipley, Outstanding Adjunct Faculty; Laqueta Soule, Outstanding Administrator; Amanda Griffin, Outstanding Part-Time or Temporary Employee; and Don Coleman, Outstanding Plant Operations Employee.

Nothing brings a crowd to its feet like a live concert, especially one by “QUEEN!” Portraying the iconic and late Freddie Mercury, Queen’s lead singer, was none other than Darrin Hassevoort, dean of Humanities and Fine Arts with “band” members Mark Terrell, lead guitar; David Wollert, bass; and Randy Griffith, drums. The group performed several songs finishing up with the 1977 hit, “We will Rock You.”

This light-hearted event brought whoops of laughter and thunderous applause as the school year drew to close.
