Chattanooga State Kimball students responding to a plea from Marion County Community Ministries collected more than 1,150 food items for their pantry through the month of October. Marion County Ministries serves as the food bank for Marion County.

The students at Kimball engaged in a spirited competition between classes to collect the most food items. Virginia Kilgore’s cosmetology class challenged Cliff Hookey’s welding class to collect the most food items. The welding class won this competition by bringing in 422 items. The cosmetology program was a close second with 352 items. The early college English classes challenged each other and Wes Jarrett’s class collected 277 items. Thanks goes to Kimball’s staff member Kim McNabb for organizing the food drive.

The Kimball site will continue the food drive by hosting a program entitled “Bread and Words,” an afternoon of poetry, song, and soup in honor of the Thanksgiving season scheduled for November 26 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. (CST). Students will bring food or donations while enjoying soup and bread as they listen to poetry and song. Students also will share their favorite poem or song at this event.
