Students in Chattanooga State’s Advanced Pharmacy Technician Program (CPhT-Adv) will soon be using their immunization skills in the fight against COVID-19. As the U.S. death toll recently surpassed the 530,000 mark, the immunization training received by students in this program makes their future role in healthcare vital. “To help meet the critical hiring demand needed to assist with COVID vaccines, the program’s vaccine administration content was moved from the end of the semester to the beginning,” stated Dr. Nancy Watts, CPhT-Adv director.

“Being in the Pharmacy Tech program at Chattanooga state means purpose for me,” explained Mary Claire Ellis, a CPhT-Adv student. “The demand for technicians is high and I have already been hired at Memorial Hospital to help administer COVID vaccines and so much more,” she added.

“Chattanooga State graduates have been on the front lines in our community in treating patients infected with COVID-19,” stated Dr. Rebecca Ashford, Chattanooga State president. “Now, our Pharmacy Technician graduates, and currently enrolled students will play a critical role in our community by administering the COVID vaccinations.”

Ms. Ellis remarked that the program provides amazing job opportunities combined with great people who are willing to teach you. “There is job security in this program, and teachers who are willing to help you every step of the way.”

Chattanooga State’s Advanced Pharmacy Technician Program is the only PTCB approved and American Association of Health-Systems Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited program in this area. Graduates of this program can look forward to a 100% job placement rate. Chattanooga state is now accepting applications for Fall 2021.
