Chattanooga State Welcomes 49 Students Into National Technical Honor Society

May 26, 2009 | | Press Release

Chattanooga State announces the induction of 49 students into its newly established chapter of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS).  Eligibility requirements mandated that each student must have earned and maintained a GPA of 4.0, must have a 90% attendance in all classes, and must be a student-in-good-standing with the college.

Chattanooga State initiated its chapter of the National Technical Honor Society in April of this year.  Dr. Jim Barrott, vice president for technology, worked cooperatively with the Tennessee Technology Center faculty to launch the chapter.  “The NTHS encourages educational distinction, cultivates a desire for individual success, and partners with colleges to assist students as they move into today’s competitive workplace.  Having a NTHS chapter at Chattanooga State provides another dimension to our educational endeavors in the Tennessee Technology Center.”

Michael Matthews, an instructor in the massage therapy program, was eager to identify a structure through which students could be recognized for their scholarship and commitment.  “As faculty, we now have a formal and prestigious recognition, built on traditional expectations of high academic achievement, through which to visibly reward students,” notes Mr. Matthews.

The 49 students represent nine technical programs taught through the Tennessee Technology Center.
