January 22, 2010 | | Press Release

Chattanooga State Community College will launch its celebration of Black History Month with a panel discussion focusing on the Civil Rights Movement.  On February 3, local citizens, who were involved in protests in Chattanooga during the 1960s, will participate in an open conversation, “Chattanooga Sit-Ins:  Understanding the Experience From Those Who Were There.”  The program begins at 10 a.m. in the Humanities Auditorium on Chattanooga State’s main campus located at 4501 Amnicola Highway.  The public is invited to attend this event free of charge.

On February 24, the influence of gospel music headlines the program, “Gospel Explosion.”  Beginning at 10 a.m. in the Humanities Auditorium, Chattanooga State will showcase the power and influence of the black gospel choir.  The concert is open to the public free of charge.

On February 25, Chattanooga State concludes its celebration of Black History Month with a culturally-themed block party.  The event will feature local step teams, African dancers and performers, area bands, and community speakers.  The block party begins at 11 a.m. in Chattanooga State’s outdoor amphitheatre.  The celebration is a free event, and the public is invited to attend.
