Chattanooga State presents Certificates to Whirlpool Employees

Chattanooga, TN --- The Engineering Technology Division of Chattanooga State Community College presented certificates to 12 Whirlpool employees on May 9 at 1 p.m. at the plant in Cleveland. The employees were selected by Whirlpool to further develop skills needed for their job.
The Whirlpool employees receiving the certificate in Mechatronics Fundamentals are Caleb Dalton, John Gelnett, Michael Heiskell, Richard McCloud, David, Morrison, Samuel Morrow, Scott Rackley, Jeremy Shields, Robert Spraker, James Wooden, Melvin Wright, and Joseph Young. Mechatronics integrates the fields of mechanical, electrical, control, and computer engineering with the purpose of improving and/or optimizing the functionality of modern engineering systems used in today’s high-tech manufacturing. According to Lulu Copeland, technical training manager for engineering technology, “this is great example of how we can work with our business and industry partners to develop a custom solution to their employee training needs.”
The courses, which began in the fall of 2010, were delivered in multiple locations. Two courses, industrial mathematics and computer applications for engineering technology were delivered on site at Whirlpool. Subsequent courses, which include blueprint reading, industrial maintenance, safety, manufacturing processes, fundamentals of metallurgy, and fluid power were held on the main campus or at the Dayton site depending upon equipment needs. Each participant completed a total of 43 credit hours to earn the certificate.
