Chattanooga State Offers Advanced Educational Programs That Support Technology Careers

March 20, 2009 | | Press Release

During the past two years, Chattanooga State Technical Community College has invested substantial resources updating and expanding its technology-related curriculums into highly‐developed, innovative programs.  According to Dr. Jim Barrott, vice president for technology, Chattanooga State has cultivated a variety of pathways through which students can pursue technology-related careers.

Currently, Chattanooga State offers 12 associate of applied science degrees and one technical certificate in engineering technology.  With access to state‐of‐the‐art, sophisticated equipment and laboratories, engineering technology students study with credentialed, accomplished faculty, who continually network with area companies to ensure the curriculum meets current regional workforce demands.  During the 2009‐2010 academic year, Chattanooga State will continue its rich tradition of educational excellence by revising and updating two engineering technology degree programs and developing an additional engineering technology program.  These three new programs will focus on specific automotive, energy, and chemical industry needs.

In addition, the college offers 22 high‐demand, one‐year diploma programs and eight certificate programs in various other technical concentrations.    Taught by experienced, skilled instructors, these technical career programs provide students the essential training and knowledge required for employment.  Throughout their coursework, students work closely with industry professionals, sharpening their proficiencies to move quickly into the workforce. Dr. Barrott underscores Chattanooga State’s commitment to technology education by emphasizing that the college has spent $1.390 million during the past two years on technology improvements to facilities and equipment.  “We will continue future investments in the latest technologies because workforce expectations in Chattanooga dictate that individuals must be highly‐skilled, technologically‐literate, and well‐educated,” stresses Dr. Barrott.  “Today Chattanooga State graduates successfully compete in the workforce because the college continually advances its curriculum.  We are confident that Chattanooga State’s dynamic and ever‐changing educational programs prepare students to meet the challenges of high‐tech jobs that fulfill their career goals and benefit the local economy.”
