Chattanooga State Fine Art Events Premiere in September

Chattanooga State’s Fine Arts department has assembled an exciting lineup featuring student and faculty art exhibits, guitar, piano and faculty recitals, comedy improv, and concerts. 

The student art exhibition displays drawings, paintings, and photographs exhibited in the CAT and CETAS buildings, and in the Donald F. Andrews Reading & Writing Center on a continual basis throughout the semester.The faculty exhibit on view at the Humanities Gallery includes a selection of recent work from Chattanooga State Fine Arts Faculty, including painting, drawing, collage and transfer, handmade paper, stone carving, gelatin silver and archival pigment prints.

Romanian guitarist Dragos Ilie has established himself as one of the most creative and expressive young guitarists of his generation. A prize winner in multiple international competitions, Ilie will present an evening of works for classical guitar on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Next, on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 7:30 p p.m., Alan Nichols will present a solo piano recital featuring works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt. The program also includes the charming and colorful “Dolly” Suite by Gabriel Fauré, a work for piano, four hands, played with the assistance of Beth Nichols.

The month of October will tickle your funny bone as second year students from the Professional Actor Training Program present Wednesday Night Comedy Improv at 7:30 p.m. on October 2,9, 23, and 30. The scenes are improvised from audience suggestions. Fun for all ages and family friendly with the proviso that the show is improvised and based on audience suggestions!  

Also, on the calendar for October is the first of two Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra (CSO) Chamber Series Concerts during the fall semester. The CSO takes on the works of the “Father of the Symphony” who revolutionized the string quartet, Franz Joseph Haydn on Sunday, October 6 at 3 p.m. *Admission Fee is Required*– Tickets can be purchased at Chattanoogasymphony.org.

The Chattanooga State Music Department faculty will present an evening of vocal and instrumental music at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8.
