Chattanooga State announces Black History Month Events

Chattanooga State’s Office of Multicultural Services has announced a series of activities for Black History Month designed to draw attention to the cultural and historical contributions of African Americans.

On January 27, students can attend the movie, “Red Tails,” now playing in local theaters. The movie chronicles the exploits of the famed Tuskegee Airmen during World War II. Ticket information is available in the Multicultural Services, Activities Planning Board (APB), Student Government (SGA), and Student Life Offices.

Marvelyn Brown will speak at an AIDs awareness program on February 1 in the C.C. Bond Humanities Theater at 10 a.m. The topic is “The Naked Truth: Young, Beautiful & HIV Positive.”

The Black History Month Kick-off is scheduled for February 3 in the cafeteria at 10 a.m.

The much-anticipated annual Soul Food Luncheon will take place February 10 in the faculty/staff dining room at 11:30 a.m. A wide variety of southern soul food delicacies will be available for sampling. The locally renowned Booker T. Scruggs Ensemble will provide entertainment.

Black History Month activities at Chattanooga State will conclude on February 27 with the Black History Game Show in the cafeteria at 10 a.m. Contestants will test their knowledge of important events in black history while competing for prizes.
