Education changes lives. That’s Dr. Caroline Rogers’ mantra, and it’s the mindset that led to her being named SOAR Faculty Member of the Year for 2025. The designation is given to a Tennessee community college faculty member who is dedicated to teaching, scholarship, and community service.
A leader in her field, Dr. Rogers’ impact at the College dates back to 1988 and includes work as a full-time instructor, an adjunct instructor, and a program director. Since 2014, she has held the role of Program Director for Chattanooga State’s Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program.
All the while, Dr. Rogers continued to serve her community by working in healthcare settings, joining professional organizations, serving on advisory boards, and volunteering with the Special Olympics and the Interfaith Hospitality Network.
A Commitment to Physical Therapist Assistant Teaching Excellence
Her giving spirit extends into the classroom, where she is known for motivating and mentoring students, said Dr. Jonathan Brigner, Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education for Chattanooga State’s PTA program.
“The enthusiasm and passion she brings to the classroom are contagious, creating an environment where learning is both enjoyable and deeply enriching,” he said. “Her open-door policy and willingness to invest time in one-on-one mentoring have had a transformative impact on many students, inspiring them to achieve their fullest potential.”
Direct Impact: What the SOAR Award Means to ChattState
For Dr. Rogers, teaching and leadership come naturally.
"Education changes lives, and I’m privileged to play a role in that journey,” Dr. Rogers said. “This recognition reaffirms my commitment to helping students reach their goals, and I share this honor with my colleagues who make Chattanooga State a life-changing place."
The SOAR Faculty Member of the Year award recognizes not only Dr. Rogers' own work and its tremendous impact, but also the efforts ChattState takes as a college to provide a supportive learning environment for all its students.
In video appearance, Gov. Bill Lee said, “Our community colleges and TCATs offer a variety of life-changing opportunities for Tennesseans, and these finalists have stood out as leaders who have excelled within their communities. Congratulations on this honor. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication.”
